Our Story

We launched Krause Clinical Psychology (KCP) in 2026 following a shared frustration: too many people begin their mental health journey in the wrong place, reducing motivation, wasting time and money, and leading to poor outcomes.

Having worked as Clinical Psychologists across both the NHS and private practice, we saw this pattern repeatedly. People’s journeys through mental health care were often unnecessarily complicated, frustrating, and demotivating.

Again and again, the issue wasn’t a lack of willingness to engage, or that therapy “doesn’t work”. It was simply that people had started in the wrong place.

Starting in the right place

We feel strongly that mental health care should begin with a thorough clinical assessment and psychological formulation: a process that takes into account the whole person, their history, current difficulties, personality, and life context.

Only from there can the most appropriate support be identified.

But in reality, this crucial first step is often limited or missed, meaning the “solution” is implemented without really knowing what the problem is.

Sometimes this is because services are stretched, sometimes it is because clinicians understandably offer what they are most familiar with, and sometimes it is because assessments and ongoing therapy are too closely linked within the same pathway.

The result is that people can find themselves in approaches that aren’t quite right for them at that point in time, leaving them demotivated and disillusioned.

A different approach

We developed the KCP Clarity Assessment™ to offer anyone seeking help for their stress or anxiety a clear understanding of what is actually driving their symptoms, and what will actually help.

As Doctors of Clinical Psychology, we offer a holistic view of the entire mental health landscape and are not limited to recommending only certain treatments or pathways. Importantly, we are also trained in understanding people using what is known as a “psychological formulation” before starting or recommending treatment.

Our approach is methodical, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual; not just their symptoms, but also their experiences, circumstances, and personality.

We feel passionately that mental health care shouldn’t feel confusing or frustrating, and that when you start in the right place, everything that follows becomes more effective.
